Application of Silt Curtains at a Dredging Project, New Taipei, Taiwan
Products:ACECurtain™
Application: Silt and Turbidity Control
-
Background
-
The aim of this project is to dredge the mud from the seabed around the Linkou Power Plant and port while also using the dredged silt for land reclamation in Taipei Port in preparation for future operational needs.
-
Problem / Task
-
During the dredging process, seabed sediments are disturbed leading to high concentration slurry suspension to diffuse in the sea.
-
Solution/ Design & Construction
-
ACECurtain™ silt curtains are installed around the area to be dredged to restrain the dispersion of silt, so as not to cause damage to the fishermen's rights and port operations. ACECurtain™ is made of durable ACETex® woven geotextile as the vertical skirt with floating and anchoring systems. The overall setting length is about 3,000 meters.
-
Result
-
The separation, filtration, and energy dissipation characteristics of ACECurtain™ silt curtain can be flexibly to meet the different criteria demand of maritime engineering to prevent the diffusion of turbid water and prevent silt deposition. Also, ACECurtain™ can be easily installed and reusable. Overall, it can achieve the goal of engineering and environmental protection.
